Background:

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) is the peak council and national centre representing the Australian workforce. Established in 1927, the ACTU prides itself in representing Australian workers and their families, and has spearheaded some of the most fundamental workplace improvements in Australia’s history.

The objective:

In its 2011 ‘Stand up for Super’ campaign, the ACTU wanted to be seen as a major participant in the debate on increasing Australia’s Super Guarantee (SG – the compulsory superannuation contribution from an employer), from 9% to 12% of workers’ wages. As well as creating a framework for the bargaining and lobbying process, the ACTU wanted to engage its affiliate unions, other stakeholders and the general public in the campaign.

The result:

We developed the ‘Stand up for Super’ website to broaden the campaign’s influence.

The site enabled both unionists and the public to immediately participate in the lobbying process, through online petitioning. The site's impact contributed to Australia's Federal Parliament passing legislation in 2012 that set a timetable for the SG’s increase from 9% to 12% by 2020.

A longer-term legacy of the SG campaign was that the ACTU’s site also engaged constituent unions in ways that transcended the immediate issue of super, by raising their awareness of the power of online tools in all campaigns and bargaining processes.

Daniels designs and sells cutting-edge healthcare products to organisations in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.  Its groundbreaking, re-usable Sharpsmart sharps disposal system was launched in 1999, and is now the world’s leading reusable sharps disposal system.

The objective:

Daniels needed a website that incorporated six international areas of operation into one easily manageable and consistently branded framework.

The result:

In order to deliver the consistent message & brand structure that Daniels required, while still providing content flexibility for international divisions, we decided to build a Drupal multi-site. This highly advanced system required detailed planning in order to accommodate divisional needs within the one site structure, and top level technical expertise to ensure that the administrative side of the site was easy to manage.

Background:

The SDA (Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association) is the largest trade union in Australia, with more than 230,000 members. It has branches in every State, and provides a comprehensive range of member services, available to all full-time, part-time or casual employees who are Union members.

The objective:

The SDA wanted a web presence for its ‘Take the Time’ campaign that sought to influence the NSW State Government attempt to extend retail trading hours. Any extension was seen as a detrimental to the interest of its members.

The result:

We created a campaign website whose main tool was a digital lobbying platform. This enabled a petition of more than 24,500 (predominantly web-generated) signatures to be presented to the NSW State Parliament in September 2012. The site was also linked to a coalition of various community organisations, to tap into broader community sentiment – as was evidenced by the strong response to the online petition.

Background:

The Police Association of Victoria, founded in 1917, exists to advance and represent the industrial, legal, professional and welfare interests of its 13,000 members. The Association is a Federally registered and recognised trade union.

The objective:

The Police Association was attracted to a communications solution whereby it would be the primary contact source with its members – most urgently, to provide welfare or legal support to any member involved in a critical incident.

The result:

A smart-phone application, TPAV Assist, was developed to provide Association members with critical incident advice and access to counselling services. But it also went beyond that function – with further add-ons such as police news, information on pay and conditions, advice services, and member benefits. The phone app already allows the Association to better engage with its members, and has the inbuilt capacity to further expand its capabilities.
